I am an old timer. I raised my kids in the 60-70's. I was raised in the 40-50's.
I am conservative as far as raising kids. When I raised mine we had certain rules. No honkey-tonks--no dancing, no dating until 14 (or so)---and then the 'dating' was controlled...like we take you and pick you up--no sleeping around --even if you are 18 -19---as long as you are in my house--(hell, we did not even talk about 'sleeping around')-- no drinking, no drugs, no weed, no smoking cigarettes, and church three times a week, and studied hard in school.
That's pretty much how I was taught. My kids turned out pretty good I suppose. None of them have been to jail or prison--and none of them ever got on drugs. All of them do drink alchohol---the boys like their beer and my girl likes her wine. They don't go to church regularly--and one questions if there is a Higher Power.
When my wife's grandkids come (7 and 9) it's like D-Day. Running to and fro, all the tv's hooked up to play-stations and always going somewhere...like to the movies...etc trying to find something to keep them 'entertained'. The nine year old tells his Momma where to 'get off' sometimes and the 7 year old has this temper that gets him in anger management. The Momma and Daddy don't believe in too much harsh correction---and believe the kids should 'say what they feel'.
My second wife and I (20 years together) raised HER kids the same way I was raised.
So, we see some divergence here in our history and our genetics---or something.
Y'All tell me what it is?

There must be an HIGHER POWER she goes to church maybe she just not come to know him yet and when she does she will know then there is none no higher then him (JESUS CHRIST)

I believe that one can love God and Jesus and live a righteous life without attending commercialized church. So if your kids do not attend church regularly I would not be concerned unless I didn't like their other behaviors.
I agree that there have been ethical changes between generations. Lots of today's kids are out of control. Some of the problem is our government social services office’s intrusion upon everyday life – any discipline can be construed as child abuse. Kids aren’t dumb – they notice that and use it to get away with stuff we’d never consider at their age. I have two nephews with the arrogant and rude “me first” attitude, and I’ve made it clear to them that that won’t fly around me. One has gotten the message and is turning around. The other is starting to notice that his attitude has cost him some favors and considerations, but the jury’s still out whether he will ever mature. All I can do is show kids that I don’t fold under their manipulation. Most times they need me more than I need them. I don’t have kids so I realize that my stance may not be practical inside families, but I’ve tried the reasoning approach before and it is not taken seriously.

THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN CORRECTED WHILE THEY WERE SMALLER, PARENTS NOW ARE LIBERAL ON RAISING THEIR KIDS. LET THEM TALK BACK TO THEM , SLAMMING THINGS AROUND, ETC. IT'S GOING TO BE HARD TO BREAK THEM NOW. SOUNDS LIKE TO ME THEY NEED A TRIP OR TWO BEHIND THE BAR. IT ALL STARTS AT THE HOME AND THE PARENTS. HOWEVER WE STILL HAVE SOME IN OUR CHURCH THAT ARE WILD AS BUCKS. THE PARENTS HAVE BEEN ASKED TO KEEP THEM QUIET WHILE THE SERVICE IS GOING ON. CHURCH WILL TEACH THEM RIGHT FROM WRONG.

WHEN I WAS GROWING UP THERE WAS NO SUCH THING AS A D D, IF WE MISGEHAVED WE GOT THE B E L T.
THEY HAVE BEEN GIVEN TOO MANY CHOICES. SET A HEARTY MEAL ON THE TABLE, THEY CAN EAT IT OR JUST DO WITHOUT. I KNOW, ITS HARD LOVE BUT YOU HAVE TO BREAK THOSE BUCKING BRONCOS.

I've been here and there, and have seen this and that; have met these and them; and have done most things from there to here. It all accounts to not too much.
