O.J. Simpson faces 6 years to life at sentencing

LAS VEGAS – O.J. Simpson is going to prison; the question is for how long.

The former football star who walked away a free man after a celebrated murder trial was due to learn Friday how much time he'll spend in a Nevada state prison for a botched attempt to recover sports mementoes and personal items from two collectibles peddlers.

Neither Simpson, who was acquitted of the 1994 slayings of his ex-wife and her friend in Los Angeles, nor his co-defendant and former golfing buddy, Clarence "C.J. Stewart, testified at trial. They were convicted Oct. 3 of 12 criminal charges, including kidnapping and armed robbery, and face mandatory prison time — a minimum of six years and up to life.

Simpson attorney Yale Galanter has said his client won't address the court. Stewart will, said his lawyer, Brent Bryson.

"Best-case scenario we're hoping for is six years. That's the bottom-end number before being eligible for parole," Bryson said.

District Attorney David Roger is not expected to call witnesses, spokesman Dan Kulin said.

Simpson lawyer Gabriel Grasso said Clark County District Court Judge Jackie Glass would likely keep the proceedings short.

"She wants to hear from the lawyers and she wants to hear from the defendants. That's about it," Grasso said.

Judges in Nevada have broad discretion in determining whether to run sentences consecutively or at the same time. Glass, known for giving severe sentences, can ignore or accept a recommendation from the state parole agency calling for at least 18 years.

She received written pleas for leniency from defense lawyers and was expected to rule on a request to let Simpson post bail and be freed from jail while he appeals his conviction. The judge already denied the men's request for a new trial.

"Notwithstanding the jury verdict, Simpson continues to maintain his innocence," Grasso said in a brief seeking his client's release.

Jurors who heard 13 days of testimony said after the verdict that they were convinced of Simpson's guilt because of audio recordings middleman Thomas Riccio secretly made of the Sept. 13, 2007, Palace Station casino hotel confrontation with sports memorabilia brokers Alfred Beardsley and Bruce Fromong.

"Don't let nobody out of this room!" Simpson commands on the recordings, and instructs other men to scoop up items he insists had been stolen from him.

On Tuesday, Glass is scheduled to sentence four former co-defendants who took plea deals and testified against Simpson and Stewart. Michael McClinton, Charles Cashmore, Walter Alexander and Charles Ehrlich could receive probation or prison time. McClinton could get up to 11 years; the others face less.

I would get a phone call every month from Ohio bith parents and every time they upset me..They would use my dog Joey to upset me but then they had him put down..Then The calls came every other month or longer and I like  that..

When I lived in Ohio my birth Parents always forgot my birthday unless someone said something...I never said anything because I not care and even then they got the wrong month but the right day 5th..

So today I get a box in the mail a birthday gift they think my birthday is tomarrow the 5th LOL...But this time it is something I realy like a Monkey Watch..As many you know I collect monkeys,anyways I find it funny they even send me anything at all..But last year they thought it was September the year before that thay thought it was May..

I think one thease days they just may get it and send something in Aug and finaly get that birthday right LOL..

Only bad thing about this is I gotta call em and thank them for the gift and I HATE calling them and having to talk to them..

I tell them every time NOT TO SEND me anything I DO NOT WANT OR NEED ANYTHING I tell them...Only time I ever call is when they send somthing and I have to thank em for it..

I want to say to them STOP CALLING ME I do not want to talk to you but mom and dad said I have to be nice and thank them...

Oh well guess I have to thank them and listen to them as they put all my sisters down and then pick on me over the phone..

At lease they can't hurt me any more and I only have to talk for a bit guess I can be nice to them that long...Even thoughI know they will put me down and pick on me over the phone..

BUNA, Texas – The one that didn't get away held an unlikely surprise for a Texas man. The blue-stoned class ring of Joe Richardson, engraved with his name, turned up inside an 8-pound bass 21 years after he lost it while fishing on Lake Sam Rayburn.

"My first reaction was — you gotta be kidding," he said Wednesday.

The fisherman who discovered the tarnished ring inside his catch contacted Richardson on Nov. 28 in Buna, about 100 miles northeast of Houston, after tracking him down with help from the Internet.

His fisherman hero asked to remain anonymous.

Richardson, 41, said he lost the ring about two weeks after his 1987 graduation from Universal Technical Institute in Houston. His mom had bought it for about $200 and wasn't pleased when it went missing.

As a mechanic, Richardson said he doesn't wear jewelry so he tucked the undamaged ring away.

"I have not cleaned it," he said. "I told my wife I don't want to clean it."

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – A man using a candy cane lawn ornament fended off a knife-wielding neighbor who had been attacking holiday guests at a Sacramento home. Police spokesman Sgt. Norm Leong said the man used the two-foot-tall plastic ornament to subdue the attacker until officers arrived.

He said the 49-year-old suspect became intoxicated, went over to a neighbor's home on Thanksgiving and began waving a kitchen knife at people gathered on the lawn.

He cut several peoples' clothing before one of them decided to fight back.

Police said the man with the knife was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. The guest who took up the candy cane was not arrested because police determined he acted in self-defense.

HARRISBURG, Pa. – A casino gambled and lost — big time. Now it's asking thousands of customers to give it a break.

Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course set out to do something nice for its best customers, rewarding 1,000 of them with free slot-machine playing credits

But instead of the elite 1,000, the promotion was sent to 55,000 people. If they all claim the reward, the casino could be on the hook for $29 million.

Hollywood Casino executives decided Monday to partially honor the offer after frantically calling tens of thousands of customers during the weekend.

The mistake was first reported by WGAL-TV, which said some customers already have begun trying to take advantage of the offer that took effect Monday.

The reward program was for $100 in slots credits per week from Dec. 1 through Jan. 4, plus two free visits to the buffet at the casino in Grantville, about 15 miles northeast of Harrisburg, said Penn National spokesman Eric Schippers.

Schippers said the mistake occurred at a direct mailing business that he declined to identify.

If all 55,000 customers were allowed to redeem $100 credits for five straight weeks, plus two $14 buffet visits, it would cost the casino more than $29 million, he said.

In a bid to cut its loss, Schippers said Monday the casino is offering $100 in credits per customer and two buffet passes, if they are redeemed by Christmas.

"Rather than say 'Sorry, it was an error,' we've said 'Sorry, let's try to come up with what we think is a reasonable redemption plan,'" he said.

Schippers said he did not know what might happen if a customer were to insist on the terms of the mailing.

"That is something that the customer will have to decide," he said.

A spokesman for the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board said it referred the matter to its investigators to determine whether there were any regulatory violations. He said Penn National notified the agency on Saturday.

This Is True But Funny

My dads buddy went hunting Saturday for duck he never saw any ducks but he did see a 9 point deer a 12 point deer and even a 8 point deer..

But he had only a shot gun so he could not shoot them and he was duck hunting anyways..

Then came along not one not 2 but 7 turkeys agin he could not shoot but he wish he could of...

Then he decided to call it a day and was putting his gear in the truck when he hear something and looked up..

Yep he saw lot of ducks in shooting range too and flying over were he was hunting..

Just his luck he see's deers and turkeys but no ducks till he has everything put away in his truck..

A hunters dream yet a nightmare...

NEW ULM, Minn. – Hobart Anderson of New Ulm turned 80 recently and with his birthday came a surprise. He got a birthday card signed by Collette Hartung. She was his teacher — 70 years ago. He says he was very, very surprised.

Here's how it happened. Anderson and his wife, Charlotte, were recently honored by the Wanda Gag House Association for his 20 years of involvement with the group and the house.

Hartung saw an article about the honor in The Journal of New Ulm and mailed the card. She said it was a wonderful opportunity to send a surprise.

Hartung is still living on her own in Hutchinson and is in her 90s. She was in her early 20s when she taught Anderson's third and fourth-grade class.

The association tends to the historic house of Wanda Hazel Gag, author of the classic children's book, "Millions of Cats."

Deer gets revenge after hunter shoots him

SEDALIA, Mo. – A hunter bagged a big buck on the second day of firearms season, but the kill caused him a lot of pain. Randy Goodman, 49, said he thought two well-placed shots with his .270-caliber rifle had killed the buck on Nov. 19. Goodman said the deer looked dead to him, but seconds later the nine-point, 240-pound animal came to life.

The buck rose up, knocked Goodman down and attacked him with his antlers in what the veteran hunter called "15 seconds of hell." The deer ran a short distance and went down, and died after Goodman fired two more shots.

Soon Goodman started feeling dizzy and noticed his vest was soaked in blood.

So he reached his truck and drove to a hospital, where he received seven staples in his scalp and was treated for a slight concussion and bruises.

Elvia Alvarez said to the TV station she was blending salsa in her kitchen when some splattered on the wall. Alvarez said the stain dripped into the image of the Virgin Mary. Since the stain, Alvarez claims there’s often a strong smell of roses in her home, though there aren’t any fresh roses close to her home. She believes the splatter is a message from God!

Officers went to the PNC Bank in Montgomery Township on Thursday night after an alarm went off. They saw what they thought was at least one person through the windows of the bank, which had its blinds drawn.

The area was sealed off and three nearby apartment buildings were evacuated as a precaution. Meanwhile, authorities used bullhorns and made telephone calls in a bid to make contact with whoever might be in the bank.

After repeatedly failing to get a response, a SWAT team entered the building and discovered the cardboard figure.

It was not immediately clear what set off the bank alarm.
