Traffic
I realize that Houston has more than its fair share of traffic nightmares, but there is one in particular that keeps getting worse and worse. If you live in the Copperfield/Bear Creek area (Far West Houston), you know all too well that traveling on Highway 6 between Kieth Harrow and Longenbaugh, in either direction, can be a chore. Not only have the businesses sprung up along the highway, but they keep building more and more houses in the area, which has all of lanes of Highway 6 filled with bumper-to-bumper traffic from sun-up to sun-down. Here recently, they did a nice job repaving the road. However, it has created an even bigger problem. When they repaved, they forgot some of the sensors for the red lights and they are all screwed up. That is even causing more headaches for the ridiculous traffic. They really need to correct those mistakes and install the sensors to eliminate some of the traffic problems. I try to avoid Hwy. 6 at all costs, but with everything I need being on that road, it is hard.

There is an old saying in baseball... "Pitching and Defense wins championships." And, most of the time it is proven to be true. The deal the Astros made today to acquire the services of veteran shortstop Miguel Tejada fills neither the pitching or defensive categories. The Astros dismal season last year, had very little to do with the offensive side of things. Besides Roy Oswalt, the pitching staff was hideous. The bullpen couldn't close an umbrella, let alone close out an inning. Sure Tejada provides some nice pop and protection for Berkman and Lee in the middle of the lineup, but you cannot win a championship by playing the ol' game of "let's out slug 'em." The price tag is also very high for Tejada. Not only did it cost you five players, but he is due $13 million for this season. After that, what you're paying Kaz Matsui, Carlos Lee, and Roy O, there's not going to be a whole lot left in the till to go out and pay for some quality pitching. Now, I do know that there are some good young pitchers in the farm system, but the Astros need some proven pitching help NOW. Tejada's career numbers are nice, hitting just under 300 home runs with an average just under .300 for his career, and being a right-handed power hitter, he should be hitting a lot of balls into the Crawford Boxes at the Juice Box. However, the Astros should have invested those eight figures that Tejada will make, into someone who get 200+ strikeouts, instead of someone who will strikeout close to 200 times. If the Astros don't address their pitching woes, it will be another long season of looking up at the Cardinals, Cubs, & Brewers in the standings. I will still be pulling hard for them to do well, but I just believe this was the wrong trade, at the wrong time, for all the wrong reasons.

"Laissez Le Bon Temps Rouler!" Andre Johnson is
back, and did he ever make a statement! Big Andre had six catches for
120 yards, including a wide-open 73 yard strike, in the first quarter
to make a HUGE statement early. Matt Schaub's return was also
brilliant. He was 21-33, with 293 yards passing, 2 TD's, and no
picks. And, at least for this season, you can put the Bush vs.
Williams arguement to bed. Mario Williams definitely out-played Reggie
Bush. Even Ron Dayne out-played Reggie Bush. Dayne had 89 yards
rushing on 21 carries. Bush had 34 yards on 15 carries. Dayne wound
up with 115 total yards, where Bush wound up with 104 total yards. The
defense definitely stepped it up a notch as well, especially in the
second half, when the Saints didn't do anything at all. Marques
Colston was really the only Saint, with nice stats, garnering 118 yards
receiving. Austin native Drew Brees, was 33-49 with 290 yards
passing. He had one touchdown pass, but was picked twice. So, it
looks like all is well once again in Texans football land. Now if we
can take this game and match it when it comes time to face the Colts, Titans, and Jags again. Also, let's hope they take "Big Mo(mentum)" into their game with the hot Cleveland Browns at the "Mistake By The Lake" next week. The Browns have won 3 of 4, and are chasing down a Wild Card spot as well. But, today was a great start.

For many years now, we have all heard the evils of Hillary Clinton and between 40-45% of all Americans have said no matter what, they will NEVER vote for Hillary. Now, I will preface this by saying, that I'm still supporting Barack Obama for President. However, if the election plays out as everyone has suggested, Hillary will be the Democratic Nominee. And, I more than likely will be supporting her for the Presidency. I want to know from those 40-45% some concrete reasons why there is no way you would ever support her campaign and nomination. I want REAL reasons, not opinion or your belief. I just want to know what the real reason is that some of these people are so determined that she could be the worst thing for this country. If you're worried about the "Liberal" tag, you need to check out this article...
http://blog.washingtonpost.com/thefix/2007/03/mirror_mi
rror_on_the_wall_whos.html
Hillary is probably as middle-of-the-road as any Democrat running for President. And, much to my chagrin, she has probably given more support to this President and "His" War than anyone else on the Left. Not to mention, ever since her attempt to Nationalize Healthcare, she is now #2 on the contributions from Healthcare PAC's, which means she gets the second highest amount of contributions for her Political Campaigns from the Healthcare industry, among people in Congress... Democrat or Republican. Not to mention, she accepts more contributions from big business than any other Democrat running. Now sure she is Pro-Choice/Abortion Rights, but that's where she gets most of her "Liberal" voting scores from. In looking at the Democrats, Hillary is possibly the most moderate out of the pack.
So, I just want to know what is the real deal with the "Hillary Hatred?" And, like I said, I'm looking for facts to back up opinion, not what you think might happen, if she gets elected, because no one knows. After all, Bush was a decent Governor of Texas. However, his Presidency will go down as being one of the worst in American History.

No, I'm not talking about the soccer team that your Dynamo will be taking on, in the MLS Cup Championship game for the second year in a row. I'm talking about the entire sports scene of the region. How can one area be SO lucky?! First, you have the Boston Red Sox, who have just won their second World Series in four years. Now, I realize they went through an 86 year drought, but all signs point to going from drought to deluge, as they have many of the key pieces from this past year's team in place for many years to come. Not to mention, they sell out every game (and tickets are much higher than your average Astros game), so they have the money to keep building even more successful teams for years to come. Not to mention, if you were a free agent, wouldn't you want to play at Fenway?! Then you have the New England Patriots. No matter what Sports Channel you choose these days, you can't get away from hearing about the Pats. They have a bye-week this week, and you still heard about them more than any other NFL team. Yes, we all know they are 9-0. Yes, we all know the weapons they have on offense. Yes, we all know they have an excellent defense. Yes, we all know they've won three Super Bowls this decade and are possibly on their way to number four. Do we have to hear about them every five minutes?! Even stories not related to them, they still seem to be worked into the conversations. And, yes, we know Tom Brady is good and it must be nice to be that good looking and have Supermodel girlfriends, who bear your children. However, outside of New England, many of us just can do without the wall-to-wall coverage of the Pats. Still they are 9-0. Then you go to the hardwoods, the Boston Celtics have won 16 NBA Titles. However, there has not been a title in over 20 years and even the playoff appearances have been twos and fews of late. But, finally the Celtic faithful have more than hope again. After many years of having Paul Pierce and not much else, the Celtics finally went out and got him some help, they acquired Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen to help Pierce and early results have paid dividends. They are the only undefeated team in the NBA, at 5-0. And, most of their games have been blowouts. They easily look like the best team in the weaker Eastern Conference. So, if they stay healthy (which is always an issue with Allen), they could be in line to win title #17. Then you have Boston College, who has stumbled the last couple of weeks, but at 8-2, should garner a nice Bowl game. The forementioned Revolution are playing for the MLS Cup (Go Dynamo!). And, the Bruins aren't too terribly bad at 8-6, third place in their division. So, whatever kind of sports suits your fancy in New England, odds are you are having a good year. Now, if we can get some of that magic working down here. Although, the Dynamo are playing for their second championship in a row. The Rockets are off to a nice 5-1 start (although as a Spurs fan, I wasn't happy with one of those wins). The Texans, well, they are sloooowly improving. And, maybe the Astros will do better next year. However, right now, Boston and the New England are the place for the ultimate Sports Fan.

A fitting end to a brilliant career. Lifetime
Houston Astro Craig Biggio received the 2007 Roberto Clemente Award
before Game 3, of tonight's World Series Game between the Boston Red
Sox and Colorado Rockies. This award combines tremendous community
service with excellence on the field. With this award, he received a
Chevy SUV, which he plans on donating to the Sunshine Kids charity,
which he does so much work with. I can't think of anyone more
deserving than Biggio to win this award, especially in his last Major
League season. Congratulations to Craig on winning such a worth while
award.
For all those unfamiliar with Roberto Clemente, he played 18 seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was killed in a plane crash on December 31, 1972, when he was delivering supplies and aid to Nicaragua, after it was devastated by a powerful earthquake. Clemente was known for many humanitarian efforts toward Latin American countries/territories, especially his home of Puerto Rico. He was also elected to the Baseball Hall-Of-Fame in 1973. Because of his untimely death, he's the only player that did not wait the required five year period after retirement, instituted by the Hall-Of-Fame in 1954.

As I have mentioned in other blogs, I just got back from New England, where I went to see my family on vacation and to take pictures of the foliage. I posted a few of the better ones under the 'weather' section. One of the things I love about traveling up there (and when I go to Pittsburgh) is that most establishments serve Ginger Ale. When I eat a meal, I enjoy a glass or a can of Ginger Ale. If I'm going to drink a soft drink, that's what kind I want. And, even all the Drink Machines and Mini-Marts up there sell Ginger Ale in cans and bottles. Down here, it's hard to find Ginger Ale outside of buying it at the Grocery Store. If you try to order it in a restaurant, odds are they won't have it, or they will give you a concoction of Coke & Sprite mixed together... yuck! Coke & Pepsi are too sweet for me. Sprite will do in a pinch. I enjoy a good Dr. Pepper about once or twice a week, but I want good old fashioned Ginger Ale nine times out of ten, when I want a soft drink. And, I know it is popular, because I fly a lot and my sister is a flight attendant for Continental. Outside of water, Ginger Ale is one of the most popular beverages served. Now, I admit Dr. Pepper up there is not near as popular as it is here. Although, it has really caught on over the past ten years or so. I see it more and more up there. But, I wish more stores, restaurants, and vending machines would provide Ginger Ale. I think they'd be surprised how many people would order it, if it were offered.

As the World Series shifts to Colorado for Game 3 tonight (right here on FOX 26), the advantage clearly shifts to the Colorado Rockies for
the next three games, as one of the Boston Red Sox regulars will have
to take a seat (No DH in the NL). Manager Terry Francona has decided
to play David Ortiz (the normal DH) at first base. Kevin Youklis,
who's been red hot in the playoffs and could have been the ALCS MVP,
will sit for at least Game 3. He normally plays first base, but can
play third base as well. Mike Lowell, who normally plays third base,
will also start. Youklis no doubt will be the big bat off the bench,
when the Red Sox need it. The Red Sox are up 2-0, but I look for the
capacity Colorado crowd to be a major factor in the game. "Dice-K"
Matsusaka will get the start for the Red Sox, and he's been shaky at
best. The longer season has clearly taken its toll on the Japanese
right-hander. He's 1-1, with an ERA of 5.68 in the playoffs. Josh
Fogg will get the start for the Rockies, he's 2-0 with an ERA of 1.14
in the playoffs. Clearly in all factors, the Rockies have no excuse
for losing this game tonight. However, the Rockies are very familiar
with streaks. The Red Sox are 6-0 in their last six World Series
games. We have heard all too well in the race for the White House,
that "experience matters". If that's the case, the advantage is
clearly Red Sox. While I am definitely for the Red Sox, I'm hoping
Colorado wins at least one game at home. They have been a great story
and their fans deserve it. Especially since some of them have paid
Super Bowl/Hannah Montana prices for their tickets.
Eastern
Conference, BEWARE! The Celtics are back! Yes, I'm talking about the
Boston Celtics. The 16-Time Champions, who haven't won much since the
Bird/McHale/Parrish era. Not to mention, Danny Ainge was playing Guard
for them. These days, he's been the much-maligned General Manager for
the team. However, this off-season the Celtics brought in a couple of
big names, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen to help Paul Pierce and bring
Boston Basketball back to the forefront in New England. Well, if you
missed it last night, Kevin Garnett had a Triple-Double with 21 Points,
13 Rebounds, and 10 Assists. Former UConn standout Ray Allen felt
right at home, as he poured-in 20 points, and Pierce added 12 points,
as the Celtics routed last year's Eastern Conference Champions, the
Cleveland Cavaliers, 114-89. If these Celtics are able to stay healthy
through the lengthy NBA season, they are going to be tough to deal with
in the weaker Eastern Conference. We'll see if the 'Irish Luck' is
back in 'Bean Town'. They certainly looked good last night. The NBA
season starts this coming Tuesday.
Bad
news for Sacramento Kings fans (as if you know any other kind of news),
Star Point-Guard Mike Bibby, tore a ligament in his thumb, and will be
sidelined for approximately 10 weeks. Not exactly the news you want to
hear as the season is about to start, and you are about to start the
season and you play in an already very tough Western Conference.
It's
Official, the San Diego Chargers and your Houston Texans will play at
Qualcomm Stadium on Sunday. The devastating California Wildfires have
had all of Southern California in a state of uncertainty. Qualcomm
Stadium had become a shelter for families who lost their homes or were
evacuated due to the fires. The Chargers had been practicing this week
at Sun-Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona all week. What concerns me is
the Air Quality there in San Diego. The Stadium might be ready to go.
However, how will the air quaiity outside be during the game? If you
remember a few years back, when Mexico had many wildfires, the smoke
made it all the way up here to Houston and our air was much more
polluted than usual. Qualcomm is an open-air stadium. The smoke will
not clear by Sunday. It's going to be extremely unhealthy for the
players and fans. I hope the Chargers organization and the city has
plenty of oxygen on-hand for those who need it, because I think while
their hearts were in the right place (to have the game at Qualcomm),
their heads were not. This game should have been moved to the Los
Angeles area, played in Tempe, and I know it's not the most popular
move, but maybe here to Texas. If I were a Charger, I'd rather play in
a place where it is easier to breathe clear air and not smoke, even if
it is in front of a bunch of Texans fans.
The
New York Yankees have not found the man to replace Joe Torre yet, but
have interviewed former Yank first baseman and Torre's Bench Coach, Don
Mattingly. They have also interviewed former 2006 NL Manager Of The
Year and current FOX and Yankee Broadcaster Joe Girardi and Yankee
Coach and 2003 AL Manager Of The Year, Tony Pena. The Yankees have not
made a decision. However, most reports have Mattingly, the only one
without Managerial experience as the front-runner. There have been
many reports that have Girardi linked with the Dodgers. However, they
still have Grady Little at the helm there and the Dodgers have 'no
comment' on the situation. While they shop for a new manager, they
also are in discussions with Alex Rodriguez for an extension on his
contract. He has three years left on his 10-Year $252 Million Dollar
Deal. He's owed $24 Million for this season, however $21.5 Million is
being paid by the Texas Rangers, who traded A-Rod to the Yanks three
years ago. A-Rod can opt out of his current deal, ten games after the
World Series is over and become a Free Agent. If he does, the
Steinbrenner Family has said they will not negotiate any further with
him or his agent, Scott Boras. That's why the Yankees are working
feverishly to get an extension done. Also, the Yankees are trying to
hold on to ace closer Mariano Rivera, Catcher Jorge Posada, and Right
Fielder Bobby Abreu, amongst others who are Free Agents and can bolt
from the Yankees when the Free Agent period begins after the World
Series.
The
Breeders Cup weekend got underway yesterday, with the big race
beginning today. However, if you plan on betting, make sure you read
the Racing Form on how the horses do in the mud. The continuous
rainfall in the New York City area, has made the track extremely
'Sloppy'. So keep that in mind while wagering. And, being I just gave
you that tip, I'll expect a small fee in return. Here's the field for the $5,000,000 Breeder's Cup... 1-Lawyer Run, 2-Street Sense, 3-Any Given Saturday, 4-Curlin, 5-George Washington (IRE), 6-Awesome Gem, 7-Diamond Stripes, 8-Hard Spun, and 9-Tiago.
And finally, there are some tremendous matchups in College Football today...
#1 Ohio State at #25 Penn State
#12 USC at #5 Oregon
#21 California at #4 Arizona State
#7 West Virginia at Rutgers
#9 Kansas at Texas A&M
#10 South Florida at #23 Connecticut
#11 Florida at #18 Georgia
#16 South Carolina at Tennessee
Let's see how many upsets we have today. If you missed the #2 Boston College at #8 Virginia Tech game on Thursday (because you were watching the World Series), you missed an 'almost upset'. BC was trailing almost the entire game. With 2:11 left in the 4th Quarter, the Golden Eagles scored their first touchdown to make it 10-7 Hokies. BC then went for the on-side kick, and got it. Heisman candidate, QB-Matt Ryan, drove Boston College down the field and with :11 seconds left, on a 3rd Down and 20 yards to go play, threw a TD pass to put Boston College up and the extra point gave them a 14-10 win. That means if THE Ohio State Buckeyes get upset today, that BC will probably take over that number one spot. That's a big "If" though.

Ok, this is NOT funny. I'm in Connecticut visiting the folks, and I came up here for a break from the heat and to see the foliage. The foliage (which are the different colored leaves you see in colder climates, in Autumn) is nice. It's not as nice as some of the previous years, but it beats not seeing it at all. However, the weather in Texas is colder now than it is here! It was almost 80 degrees here today, which is unheard of for late October in New England. It was in the 70's in New York City as of 8pm tonight. The cold front and some rain is moving through the area, and it's only supposed to get up to 61 tomorrow, which I'm looking forward to. I'm just ready for the cooler temps, and I was hoping to get them this week here in Connecticut. Hopefully the cooler temps will remain when I return to Houston on Thursday.

It's the end of an era in The Bronx. Joe Torre, the beloved Manager of the most elite of sports franchises, The New York Yankees, has turned down an offer to remain as Manager for the 2008 season. The contract was for one year at the base salary of $5,000,000, plus $3,000,000 more in incentives, based on level of playoff successes. Personally, after all that he's been through, walking the tightrope the last few years, I think he'd had enough. The Yankees had not reached a World Series in the past four years. They had not won one in seven years. "The Boss" (George Steinbrenner) has had to "evaluate" Torre's status each year. And, in each of the past six years, Torre's job has reportedly been in jeopardy. However, no change was ever made. It was a happy Yankee family once again by Spring Training. Sure, some of Torre's coaches would exit, but Torre stuck around. Not this time though. I think Steinbrenner's statement before Game 3 of the ALDS against the Indians, saying that if the Yankees did not win, Torre would be out. The Yankees did win that game, but they lost the series in four games. I think Torre made his mind up then, but was going to listen to what the Yankees decision was in the off-season, before he made his own. When they only offered him a one-year deal, Torre told them "no". He had enough.
After the Yankees lost Game 4 of the ALDS, Torre said in his post-game press conference, that if it was indeed his last game with the Yankees, that he was not ready to fade off into the sunset yet. He still wanted to manage. So, it will be interesting to see where he might wind up. Even if he has a change of heart, and never manages again, his Hall-Of-Fame resume speaks for itself. He managed the Yankees for 12 years. All 12 years, they made the playoffs. They won 10 AL East Titles, 6 AL Pennants, 4 World Series Titles, 2 Manager Of The Year Awards. He was 1173-767 during his Yankee tenure. And, he is 8th on the All-Time Victories list among managers. An incredible run and in any other organization, he probably would have been given a lifetime contract and keys to the city. However, as former Yankee Broadcaster Charlie Steiner once said, (paraphrasing) it's only a happy time when the Yankees are winning World Series. If you don't accomplish that, it is a bad season. It's that kind of mentality that makes me hate the Yankees with a passion. But as much as I hate the Yankees, I have always liked and had a great deal of respect for Torre. During his time as Yankee Skipper, not only did he survive the wrath of Steinbrenner, but he survived Prostrate Cancer. His brother Rocco died. And, his brother Frank survived Heart Transplant Surgery. It's pretty remarkable that he went through all of that, and had to deal with the everyday pressure of managing the Yankees. It will be some big shoes to fill for whoever takes the job next. As I said in a previous post, this is what I thought Joe should do. He deserves better than having to twist-in-the-wind for his job everytime his team doesn't win the World Series. Congratulations Joe on a great Yankee career. I hated to see all of those 1173 wins, but I sure respect you a great deal, and a whole lot more after today.

Now I've only seen bits and pieces of this story, but it is a sad one nonetheless. Supposedly, Comedienne and Talk Show Hostess Ellen DeGeneres and her Partner, Actress Portia DeRossi adopted a dog from a Dog Adoption agency. Obviously, the dog did not workout in the DeGeneres/DeRossi household. So, Ellen found a good home for the pooch. However, she violated the rules of her Dog Adoption agreement and the Dog was removed from its new home, where a little girl had grown attached to her new pup. The Dog Adoption Agency removed the Dog from that home, citing the breech of contract by DeGeneres/DeRossi. And, they said that all their potential adoptees must have a backround check done and they must observe their family's everyday lifestyle and behavior. However, it's been revealed that none of this was done with DeGeneres and DeRossi. Now, the Dog has been placed in ANOTHER home with ANOTHER family and the attorney for the Dog Adoption Agency has said this family will "Never, Never, Never, Never" get that Dog. Now, like I said, I don't know the whole story, but the family who Ellen gave the Dog to, looked all right to me. Their house looked nice. It was obvious that the girl loved the dog and she was distraught when the dog was removed. Ellen's heart was in the right place, even though she did violate the adoption agreement. Given Ellen seems like a stand-up person (despite what some people think of her personal lifestyle) and it seems like this family who wanted to keep the dog is all right. I'm wondering about this Dog Adoption Agency. I thought these people were supposed to be finding good homes for the Dogs. Apparantly, if you're rich and famous, it's ok to adopt their dogs, but put them with a loving, caring family who may not have all of the same luxuries and it's a no-go. I think for what they have put this family through, they should be ashamed of themselves. It's clearly a heartbreaking story with no winners. I just hope this story has some sort of resolution that will make everyone happy in the end.

A few weeks ago, Morgan State University in Baltimore hosted a debate for the Republican Candidates to address some issues that the African-American community faces. The event was broadcast on PBS, and hosted by Tavis Smiley. Front running candidates Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson, and John McCain decided to bypass the event. Citing scheduling issues. However, Mike Huckabee, Sam Brownback, Duncan Hunter, and a few others seemed to find the time. Huckabee even admitted that he was "embarrassed" by the no-show candidates actions. Now, a debate by the Black Congressional Caucus, that was scheduled tentatively for November 4th in Dallas, for the Republican Candidates has been cancelled due to a lack of response by the candidates themselves. The event was organized by Democratic Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson. Now, I realize that most African-Americans vote Democratic. According to the latest numbers, there is about 15% of the African American Community that is registered Republican. But, if you want to be called a "big tent" party, as the Republicans have claimed, shouldn't you at least make an attempt to reach out to the African-American community? Shouldn't you listen to what they have to say? At least you can say, "I Tried." When you just don't appear interested, people might read more into it than you might expect. I doubt a Republican running for President will ever win the Black vote, but Republicans need to SINCERELY make an effort to try and reach out. It looks really bad when you don't. And right now, I think the Republican Front-Runners need all the help they can get. Even if it is from the most unlikely of places.

If The '69 Mets were the
"Miracle Mets", I don't know what adjective we can use to describe the
Colorado Rockies, but to say it is a remarkable story, just seems to
give them a lack of credit. There is not enough praise to bestow upon
this team, and that's truly what they are... a team. While the name
"Todd Helton" may ring a bell amongst baseball fans, the rest of the
team is definitely a 'who's who' of position players. Names like Troy
Tulowitzki, Garrett Atkins, Kaz Matsui, Vorvit Torrealba... these are
not exactly players names overheard at the local sports bar. However,
they are indeed going to be the names on a lineup card, when the World
Series gets underway a week from Wednesday. And, if you guessed that
names like Jeff Francis and Josh Fogg would be starting some of those
games, who even guess that they would EVER be pitching in a World
Series?! How about names like Hawkins, Fuentes, and Corpus? Would you
guess that this is a bullpen that posted an ERA of just over 2.00 in
the playoffs?! They have just completed an unprecedented modern day
run of winning 21 of 22 baseball games. And, if you haven't heard the
name Matt Holliday yet? You will. He's about to be named NL MVP and deservedly so. He's been the heart and soul of the team all year long. I worry about the eight day layoff between now and when the World Series gets underway, especially if Boston or Cleveland gets really hot in their series and come in with some big time momentum. Sound familiar Rockies?! Anyway you slice it, even if the Rockies don't go all the way, their run up until this point is one for the ages and while the 2007 Mets will be known for their crash and burn, the 2007 Rockies will be known as the "Don't Ever Give Up" team or the team that believes in each other. They actually remind me of the 1979 "We Are Family" Pittsburgh Pirates, who beat the Baltimore Orioles in the World Series that year. They were also the last team to win a Game 7 on the road. The Rockies style of play is just that way. it just reminds me of the way the Bucs played that year. I can't wait to see if their lucky streak continues. I am eating a big slice of Humble Pie, because I have said in the past that this team would never win anything until they domed the stadium. I guess that a classic example of "never say never." It's been a Rocktober to remember. Congratulations to the Rockies and the state of Colorado for winning their first pennant.

Just when you thought this crazy football season, could not get any wilder, it did. I can't remember the last time I saw the Number One and Two teams fall on the same day, but that's exactly what has happened today. First, the 17th Ranked Kentucky Wildcats, yes the school more known for Hoops, than BCS bids, upset the Number 1 Ranked, LSU Tigers 43-37 at Commonwealth Stadium in Lexington. I guess they got a little of that Midnight Madness magic from the Arena next door. Then, the Oregon State Beavers went into Berkeley Stadium and upset the California Golden Bears 31-28. So, once again you will see a new Top 5 and a new number one, and Michigan fans might want to turn their head away from the computer screen, but it will probably be the Ohio State Buckeyes. Who up to this point, really haven't played anyone. But, the futility of some of these others like LSU and USC might propel the Buckeyes into that top position when the new Top 25 comes out tomorrow.
If you wanted more drama in football, then this is definitely your year, because I can't remember seeing anything like this. Each week brings us new excitement. And, the fact that schools like Kentucky, not known for its football prowess and South Florida, who just keeps winning are really turning some serious heads amongst the College Football Insiders. I cannot wait to see what happens next week!
